What is Biomimetic Dentistry?
Biomimetic Dentistry is a minimally-invasive philosophy of dentistry. Literally, biomimetic means to mimic biology. The term "biomimetic dentistry" was coined by Dr. Pascal Magne, who is a thought leader and researcher in the field of restorative dentistry. Biomimetic dentistry is also known as "bio-emulation dentistry", which means the same thing- to 'mimic' or 'emulate' nature's design when restoring broken or decayed teeth. By mimicking nature's design, we are able to provide patients with restorations that are stronger, last longer, and save more of the patient's natural tooth.
Why is Biomimetic Dentistry Better?
There are many reasons why biomimetic dentistry is better than traditional dentistry. The most important reason is that a biomimetic approach allows us to save patients' healthy tooth structure. In many cases, traditional dentistry protocol calls for the removal of healthy teeth, along with removing the decay in order to restore teeth. Now, with our biomimetic techniques, we can save the healthy portion of your teeth and restore only what needs to be restored.
Say No To Crowns
At R Dental Group we do not restore teeth using crowns unless we are replacing a failing crown. This reflects our philosophy of practicing minimally-invasive or conservative dentistry. By placing inlays or onlays, we are able to save our patient's natural tooth structure and provide them with restorations that last longer and prevent root canals and other complications down the road.
